Our most commonly asked question has to be about engraving fonts. People always want to know what font they should choose for a pocket watch or money clip that they're having engraved. Well, I hate to resort to this tried and true stock answer but it really applies here: It depends.

It depends on the message you're engraving and on the item you're having engraved. Let's start with the message.

If you're engraving initials, you'll want to stick with a block style font like roman or avante garde, and you'll want to avoid script fonts. The spacing on script fonts doesn't look right as this font is really made for connecting letters, like a name or message. Old english is another very popular and nice looking option for intials

If you're engraving words, like a name or short message, you'll want to stick with a script font or a block font. Both will work fine with this. It is usually best to avoid a really intricate font, like old english, as it tends to be a little much on the eyes. With all the extra lines and intricacies, it tends to be a little tough to decipher.

When engraving initials, the popular method these days is to engrave them all the same size, in the correct order, first initial, middle initial, last initial. Many people still prefer what's called a traditional monogram, which features the first letter of the person's last name in the middle and larger than the other two letters. The circle monogram font lends itself nicely to this. The important thing when having the traditional monogram is to enter the letters in the order you'd like them and specify in the comments section when checking out that you'd like the initial you placed in the middle enlargened.

If you're engraving numbers, you're in luck. Just about every font looks great when you're having numbers engraved. So if you're doing letters and numbers, choose the right font for the letters and the numbers will look great anyway.

I thinks we've covered most engraving options here but if we haven't, don't hesitate to contact us to get our opinion on something you'd like.
