Fashion Tips from Our Italian Bretheren
Let’s face it, when it comes to fashion we American men are clueless as a whole when it comes to fashion sense, and when compared to Italian men you could reasonably say we’re complete slobs. Since everyone knows the ladies love a sharp dressed man you’ve got to start emulating our Italian brothers! Here are few tips that will actually help you look like you know what you’re doing when you want to dress to impress, courtesy of our friends at Forbes.com.
Make sure to start with the right fit. Italian men grow up going to tailors so they know about fit, your local Jacque Penet chain store does not. Shirts should be close to the body but not so tight that it looks like a muscle shirt. Make sure your pants are properly hemmed by a professional as this is another mistake non-Italian men frequently make. The pants should barely touch the top of your shoes with a proper fit.
The next nuance in fashion that escapes most men is the art of tying and maintaining a tie. Master the art of tying a Windsor knot by taking your time and looking at a diagram if necessary and slowly repeating the steps until you get it right. Once you have the perfect knot, keep in place with a high quality tie bar. A tie bar will keep your tie from unraveling and looking high and tight as it should.
Use a tie bar and make sure you have the correct fit if you want to make a lasting impression next time you hit the town. We’d love to hear some feedback from you, what are some of your fashion “secrets”?!
A Belated, But Awesome Father’s Day Gift
I came across this article in the Globe Gazette about a special Father’s Day gift that David Snyder of Clear Lake, Iowa received this year. It was a tooth shaped sculpture that his daughter, Melanie Kay Snyder, made for him to use as a lapel pin or a tie tack. The reason this particular gift is so special is becuase Melanie passed away 17 years ago after fighting a long battle with leukemia.
Melanie was an 18 year old college freshman at Cornell College in Iowa when she succumbed to her disease. Before this, she was a student at Clear Lake high school with many interests, including art. She was a student in a talented and gift art program run by Anne Denney. Melanie decided one of her projects would be to create a sculpture of a tooth for her father who ran, and still runs, a dental laboratory. She figured he could use the small sculpture for a lapel pin or a tie tack. The gift never got delivered, until this past father’s day that is.
Anne, who now lives in Kentucky, was back in Iowa to help clear out her mother’s home. She found the unique sculpture and immediately know that she must deliver it to Mr. Snyder. It just so happened to turn out that the delivery was made on Father’s Day. When he opened his Father’s Day delivery, Mr Snyder said “Oh my. That’s great. In fact, it’s about as good as it gets. And on Father’s Day, too.” I thought this was a great, heartwarming story to share on Father’s Day.
